What the selected answers mean — October 29, 2026

Our retrospective analysis, not official hints. These explanations discuss the selected examples; they do not establish official acceptance or scores for alternatives. The linked reveal records the official selection; the independent Replay answer pool may use a different scope.

  1. Find a valid example in this category: French or British food.

Selected answer: Bedfordshire clanger. French and British food includes regional dishes as well as familiar national favourites. Think of meals, pastries, puddings and cheeses, rather than assuming that only restaurant main courses count. Bedfordshire clanger is the selected revealed answer: a traditional filled preparation associated with Bedfordshire, with versions combining savoury and sweet fillings. Recipes and traditions vary, so one modern filling is not the definition of the whole dish. Replay groups familiar English and French spellings where they name the same food. See the Countryfile recipe and regional account.

  2. Find a valid example in this category: Name something you can measure about the human body.

Selected answer: Two-point discrimination. A body measurement can describe size, function or a laboratory result. Height, weight and pulse are everyday starting points, but sensory performance can be measured too. Two-point discrimination tests whether someone can distinguish two touches from one; the distance between the contact points is part of the assessment. Results depend on the body region and testing method, so a single threshold does not describe everyone. Replay accepts reviewed measurement names and common abbreviations. It is a word game, not a tool for interpreting personal medical results. See Clinical Methods on sensory examination.

  3. Find a valid example in this category: strategy board game.

Selected answer: Rithmomachia. Strategy board games ask players to make decisions about position, resources, timing or opponents. Chess and Go are familiar examples, while modern games can combine strategy with dice or cards. Rithmomachia is a historical mathematical board game whose numbered pieces make arithmetic relationships part of play. Its spelling has several historical variants, which are useful aliases rather than separate games. Replay includes reviewed game titles and established alternate names. A digital-only strategy game does not qualify simply because its gameplay involves planning. See this historical rules discussion of Rithmomachia.

  4. Find a valid example in this category: animal with a one-word name containing "ck".

Selected answer: Dickcissel. Both spelling conditions matter here: the animal name must be one word and contain the adjacent letters ck. Duck, chicken and woodpecker show how familiar answers can satisfy the pattern. Dickcissel is also a single-word bird name, documented by Cornell's bird guide. It describes a grassland bird of North America. An animal can be perfectly real yet fail this particular puzzle if its name needs a space or lacks the required letters. Replay checks the entered animal-name spellings rather than treating every synonym as interchangeable. See the Cornell Lab Dickcissel guide.

  5. Find a valid example in this category: country where another religion has more followers than Christianity.

Selected answer: Mauritius. The comparison is between Christianity as a whole and another individual religion. It does not require that the other religion exceed half the population, and having many people with no religious affiliation is not sufficient. Mauritius qualifies because Hinduism has more followers there than Christianity. Census dates and survey definitions matter, especially for close comparisons or traditions that overlap. Replay uses documented reference data and explains its treatment of disputed or uncertain cases; the country list is not a claim that religious affiliation never changes. See Statistics Mauritius's 2022 census results.

  6. Find a valid example in this category: Name someone who has been a teammate of Lionel Messi, Cristiano Ronaldo, LeBron James or Tom Brady.

Selected answer: Coby Karl. A teammate must overlap with one of the four named stars on an actual team. Playing for the same club in different decades, facing the star as an opponent or coaching the team is not enough. The question spans football, basketball and American football, so several sports provide familiar answers. Coby Karl played for Cleveland during the 2009–10 season, when LeBron James was a Cavalier. Replay records the relevant team and season evidence and groups reviewed name variants. Similar surnames must not silently turn different people into one answer. See the Cavaliers career record for Coby Karl.

  7. Find a valid example in this category: hair type, texture, or natural color.

Selected answer: Titian. This category covers hair type, texture and natural colour, which are different ways of describing hair. Straight, curly, fine, black and blonde are familiar examples. Titian is a reddish-gold hair-colour term, rather than the name of a hairstyle. Everyday vocabulary can overlap, and British and American spellings such as grey and gray should lead to the same answer. Replay groups reviewed equivalents while keeping distinct descriptions separate. An artificial colour or a haircut does not automatically qualify as a natural colour or texture. See the Cambridge Dictionary definition of Titian.
