What the selected answers mean — October 19, 2026

Our retrospective analysis, not official hints. These explanations discuss the selected examples; they do not establish official acceptance or scores for alternatives. The linked reveal records the official selection; the independent Replay answer pool may use a different scope.

  1. Find a valid example in this category: female artist with over 500,000 monthly listeners on Spotify.

Selected answer: Cesária Évora. Cesária Évora’s music still reaches a substantial audience through her recorded catalogue. Her established Spotify artist page, displayed as Cesária Evora, showed 1,073,778 monthly listeners when checked on October 19, 2026. That observed figure clears the question’s 500,000 threshold; the artist’s lifetime or present touring status is irrelevant to this catalogue-based measure. The Cape Verdean singer is closely associated with morna, and her official biography connects her voice with Mindelo and the islands’ musical culture. Keep the accent variants together when remembering her name. Monthly listeners are an audience statistic, distinct from follower totals and cumulative song plays, and can change after this dated snapshot.

  2. Find a valid example in this category: foul or rule violation in soccer, basketball, American football, cricket, rugby or ice hockey.

Selected answer: Flying wedge. A flying wedge sounds like a clever way to break a defensive line, but rugby union explicitly bans it. World Rugby Law 9.22 assigns a penalty for using the formation. The official glossary describes an attack in which several teammates bind onto a moving ball-carrier before meeting the opposition, sometimes with supporting players ahead of the carrier. That preassembled group is the distinguishing feature. One supporting player may pre-bind if the player meets the obligations of arriving at a tackle, so a visible attachment alone does not establish this offence.

  3. Find a valid example in this category: underwear brand.

Selected answer: Jogbra. Jogbra began with a running problem: ordinary bras offered uncomfortable support during exercise. The Smithsonian’s company archive records how Lisa Lindahl, Polly Palmer Smith and Hinda Schreiber, later known as Hinda Miller, developed the garment in 1977. Early prototypes joined parts of two athletic supporters; the inventors wanted support without irritating seams, hooks or metal. Their product’s name changed from “jockbra” to Jogbra, and their company later became JBI. This was a commercial intimate-apparel brand whose range also expanded into sports briefs, making its unusual name a valid historical answer here.

  4. Find a valid example in this category: university in the US or UK.

Selected answer: Berea College. Berea College qualifies through what it teaches, even though its name says “college.” Located in Kentucky, it awards Bachelor of Arts and Bachelor of Science degrees across a broad liberal-arts curriculum. Its history also gives you something more memorable than a dot on a university map: founded by abolitionists in 1855, Berea was the South’s first interracial and coeducational college. Students combine academic study with campus work, graduating with both academic and labor transcripts. Think of Berea as a small institution built around an unusually practical idea: learning, labor and opportunity belong together. Degree programs; Berea’s history and work model.

  5. Find a valid example in this category: language that’s the most spoken in at least two countries.

Selected answer: Serbian. Serbian earns its second country through a surprisingly useful distinction: the largest language group need not be a majority. Serbia’s 2022 census records Serbian as the mother tongue of 84.4% of residents. In neighboring Montenegro, the 2023 census puts Serbian first at 43.18%, ahead of Montenegrin at 34.52%. That gives Serbian the leading mother-tongue position in both countries, despite their different national names and identities. It also shows why counting official languages would miss the point of this question. Here, the evidence is what people reported as their mother tongue. Serbia census; Montenegro census.

  6. Find a valid example in this category: character that has been playable in a Super Smash Bros. game.

Selected answer: Min Min. Min Min brought ARMS to the Smash roster. Nintendo lists her as a downloadable fighter in Super Smash Bros. Ultimate, so she qualifies even if you mainly remember the older games. Her appearance as a spirit would not establish playability on its own; the separate fighter release does. The official announcement calls her the Ramen Bomber and describes three powerful ARMS for striking at different distances. That noodle-shop connection is part of her character, rather than a fan nickname invented for Smash. She is fighter number 76 in Nintendo’s numbering.

  7. Find a valid example in this category: fruit normally eaten with its skin on.

Selected answer: Miracle fruit. The skin stays; the seed goes. The University of Florida’s preparation instructions say to chew a miracle berry gently, separate and discard its seed, then move the flesh and skin around the mouth. That makes this an established skin-on preparation, beyond a claim that the peel happens to be edible. The small red fruit comes from Synsepalum dulcificum, a West African shrub. Its pulp contains miraculin, which temporarily changes how sour foods taste. The berry itself is not particularly flavorful, but a sour food tasted afterward can seem sweet. Preparation practices vary, so skin-on eating need not be universal.
